    Our client is an industry leader and national distributor within their niche sector. They are looking for a Supply Chain champion to lead their organization as a Procurement and Commodity Manager. This strategic position will be based out of the ‘highly sought after’ Kelowna market. The primary function of this leadership role is to plan, organize, direct, and manage the purchasing department while introducing continuous improvement initiatives that will drive efficiencies, profit gains, and new value streams. 

    The Procurement and Commodity Manager will lead a department which includes buyers, and administration team members; in addition, manage strategic relationships with key suppliers, and work closely and collaboratively with other internal stakeholders and departments. This key role will also have a significant ‘voice’, reporting directly to the General Manager, to help direct and support the company’s direction and future growth strategies. 

    Responsibilities 

    • Creates forecasts for suppliers along with internal Purchasers to secure timely inventory
    • Develop strong negotiation culture within the purchasing team
    • Provides purchasing team planning and control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
    • Organizes PO by verifying specifications and price, obtaining recommendations from suppliers for alternative items
    • Negotiate with local and international suppliers; prepare price comparisons, cost savings, and budgeting
    • Ensures Governmental regulatory standards are upheld internally
    • Continuing education to understand market and industry pressures and trends
    • Assess, monitor, and mitigate risks by reviewing financial statements and evaluate overall supplier strength; identify new opportunities to minimize risk
    • Forecasts price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power
    • Continuing education to understand market and industry pressures
    • Creates metrics and reports to monitor effectiveness

    Qualifications

    • Excellent written, verbal skills, with impeccable attention to detail
    • A team player and leader who works well in a fast-paced environment
    • Proven aptitude in problem solving
    • Certified Professional Purchaser Designation (C.P.P.) is an asset
    • Must have 2+ years related Purchasing Management experience, with extensive people management practice…
    • Industry related experience is an asset, preferably a background in Retail, Agriculture, and/or other related commodity-based fields
    • Diploma/Degree in related field, such as Supply Chain, Business, or International Trade, is considered essential
    • Strong understanding of seasonality within the supply chain function is a MUST
