    Our client is an innovative leader in the plant-based food ingredient space. Backed by innovative food science technology plant-based products are growing exponentially within the Food Manufacturing industry. Our client has been a leader within their niche marketplace and are looking to add a new member to their Product Innovation team. This strategic addition will work hand-in, hand with the sales and marketing team as well. Cameron Lappin of Lock Search Group, has been retained to support this key client and assist them in bringing on a newly created role: Product and Innovation Applications Specialist.

     

    This Specialist will be responsible for collaborating and partnering with new and existing clients within the food and beverage production sector to solve the big questions: how can our ‘products and ingredients’ support, and advance your product development portfolio, flavour planning and innovation goals.   

     

     

    Please note, candidate must have previous experience working directly in R&D/Product Development and Application sectors within the food and beverage industry; and be based in the GVA, Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, and Okanagan regions. The role is home-based, but will involve some travel. 

     


    Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with the Commercial team to establish long and short-term priorities, projects and objectives related to applications development and support. 
    • Serve as an expert and project manager within application of current and expanding portfolio of products. 
    • Partner with the commercial team and our customers to demonstrate the functionality of our products on customer-specific opportunities.
    • Leading new application development with a focus on the plant-based protein market.
    • Project management of benchtop and plant trials to assess the viability of new ingredients in applications and the best process in which to incorporate products to customer applications.
    • Formulate products according to product development briefs to meet customer and consumer acceptance, nutritional and certification targets.
    • Ensure projects meet deadlines, quality and regulatory standards from ideation to full scale production by engaging the cross functional team
    • Actively participate with the R&D team in new product development, from discovery and initial feasibility assessment to product qualification and commercialization.
    • Contribute new ideas to R&D and Commercial team that drive the innovation pipeline through scientific and technical insights.
    • Participating in consumer acceptance testing and applying learnings to product development efforts
    • Apply innovation and technical know-how to solve product evolution challenges for both the company and its customers including generation of technical information to enable adoption of a product line. 
    • Support and apply expertise in rapid prototype development for use with customers and at industry events.

    Qualifications:

    • Food Science, or Culinary Degree preferrable with start-up experience. 
    • A minimum of two years in formulation and project management work within food & beverage companies.
    • Customer facing experience in demonstrating formulations and working with customer technical/formulation teams is preferred.
    • Creative problem-solver who applies technical knowledge to address processing challenges 
    • Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment with cross-functional teams across various geographies.
    • Exceptional organizational, written and verbal communication skills
    • Proficient in use of computer programs (Zoom, Word, Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint etc.)
    • Experience in formulating and supporting the production of plant-based meat analogs and/or dairy alternatives is preferred.
