Purchasing Manager

Do you have 10+ years of procurement experience? Is this experience in the wire and cable or electrical industry? This role may be for you! Our client is seeking an experienced and driven Purchasing Manager to join their dynamic team in Mississauga, Ontario.
As the Purchasing Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team of buyers, managing a multi-million dollar spend portfolio, and ensuring the achievement of key performance metrics. Reporting to the Director of Inventory Management, you will contribute to the success of the organization by cultivating supplier relationships, implementing sourcing strategies, and providing crucial support to internal stakeholders. The range of responsibilities below will contribute to procurement excellence and operational efficiency.
What you will be doing:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead and oversee a team of buyers, ensuring workload distribution and fostering collaboration.
- Act as the first point of contact for escalated purchasing issues, promoting swift resolution.
Supplier Relations and Strategy:
- Maintain vendor pricelists, contribute to pricing structures, and drive discount maintenance.
- Develop and nurture strong partnerships with suppliers, managing cost, quality, and delivery performance.
Procurement Process Enhancement:
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the procurement process.
- Assist in the implementation of sourcing strategies aligned with corporate objectives.
Inventory Management and Demand Planning:
- Execute demand planning for predefined categories, ensuring timely and budget-conscious inventory acquisition.
- Collaborate with inventory management and sales teams to optimize warehouse efficiencies.
Negotiation and Collaboration:
- Negotiate prices with vendors to secure advantageous terms.
- Collaborate with Regional/Sales Branch Managers to establish stocking items and inventory levels.
The experience you bring:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Materials Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Operations, or a related field.
- 10+ years of procurement experience, ideally within the wire and cable or electrical industry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Access, Power BI, as well as ERP systems).
- Strong leadership capabilities, capable of mentoring and developing staff.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey procurement objectives and benefits effectively.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities, enabling effective prioritization and meeting of deadlines.
- Professional and courteous demeanor, adaptable to working independently and under pressure.
- Strong written and verbal communication, listening, and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to initiate and resolve issues or complex problems with a high level of initiative.
