    Our client is an innovative start up company, focused on developing the food science within the cultured meat market. This exciting sector is growing rapidly, and transforming the industry. Our client is looking to scale and expand its organization rapidly over the coming years and is keen to add a foundational piece to the organization. Cameron Lappin, of Lock Search Group, has been brought on to guide the client in this process and assist them in recruiting an exceptional individual for a very strategic position, their Senior Research Scientist. This is a unique opportunity where our client is open to hiring either a full-time salaried employee, or a Consultant on a contract.  Please note, this position can be remote.

    The Senior Research Scientist will be responsible for taking their direct experience from education and the lab into the world of production.  With a background in food technology, specifically with cell biology/microbiology the Senior Research Scientist will work with other departments to develop the cultured meat product line, which will also involve leading the IP side, building budgets and project scopes, trials, and of course, building out the proof of concept…

     

    Key Responsibilities 

    • Lead one or more research projects focusing on cell line development, media optimisation, bioreactor design and scale-up.
    • Work with a cross-functional team to develop products from concept to commercialization.
    • Contribute strategic scientific ideas for long term data acquisition and analysis.
    • Work with culinary experts to drive flavor and texture development of a wide portfolio of highly innovative products.
    • Upscale production process of new cultured- meat based products.
    • Source laboratory equipment and materials as needed
    • Initiate contact and communicate with ingredients and technology vendors.
    • Collect, analyze, interpret and present experimental data.
    • In collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer, you be a force in the company’s scientific operation, ensuring alignment with the organization’s overall strategic objectives
    • Formulate new and existing cultured meat products to meet objectives for sensory and nutritional attributes, quality, shelf life, manufacturability, cost and timelines and production process
    • Maintain records of formulations, process parameters, finished product results, sensory assessments, and project progress 

    Qualifications

    • Must have a background in Food Science and R&D that is involved with ‘growing cells’ and cultured foods 
    • Master’s of Science with a focus in a relevant area (cell or molecular biology, developmental biology, cancer biology, regenerative medicine, cellular metabolism, physiology, materials science etc.), or 5+ years in a relevant industry role.  
    • Experience in developing and running cell-based assays and/or tissue engineering.
    • Comprehensive working knowledge of food ingredient functionality, food production principles and processes.   
    • Aptitude for solving technical challenges through systematic research and investigation
    • Exceptional project management skills, well-organized, detail-oriented, coupled with strong multi-tasking and prioritization abilities
