Business Development Manager – Value Automation, Hydraulics, Fluid Power (Western Canada)

Greater Vancouver, BC

Cameron Lappin of Lock Search Group is currently working with an innovative industrial custom manufacturer and distributor supporting the industrial, oil and gas, energy, and forestry sectors. Our client provides first hand consulting, technical design support, and engineering services to these sectors, with a strategic focus on valve automation, and fluid power technology/equipment. This strategic newly created BDM position will focus on the Western Canadian market, but will be based out of their Lower Mainland operation.

 

In this role, responsibilities include driving sales across Western Canada with a focus on the oil and gas, pulp and paper, water and waste treatment, and hydrogen/alternate fuels sectors, but will primarily target the engineering, and owner community to drive specifications and demand. As part of the strategic leadership committee, the role supports both current and future growth initiatives.  You will also lead the technical and commercial reviews process for bids and RFQs. Key duties also include providing customer support, resolving technical issues, collaborating on valve automation projects, and contributing to marketing initiatives and market research. A strong emphasis is placed on building strategic customer relationships and delivering sustained sales growth within industrial and institutional projects.

 

This position is supported with a strong six-figure salary, 30% annual bonus (with quarterly payments), solid car allowance and gas card, RRSP matching and benefits.  This role also has a clear path to a National Sales Manager leadership position once socialized and integrated within the company.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct technical and commercial reviews of bids and RFQs
  • Develop specifications for valve automation, actuation, and control systems
  • Work with customers to finalize concepts and gather additional details; perform site visits as required
  • Provide client support and resolve technical issues via email, phone, and other channels
  • Conduct market research to identify new business opportunities
  • Interpret and analyze pneumatic and hydraulic fluid power circuits and schematics
  • Specify and select process valves based on application requirements
  • Prepare and review technical documentation for automated valves and controls
  • Communicate with customers to gather application details for electro-hydraulic systems, including power units and control components
  • Prepare and issue final quotations with supporting concept drawings and specifications
  • Contribute to project support and assist in the development of marketing materials
  • Design campaigns and workflows within CRM to support business development
  • Collaborate with project management and assembly teams to support execution

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is preferred
  • 5+ years of direct work experience in an external technical sales capacity
  • 3+ years of hydraulic, valve automation along with design experience preferred
  • Technical background in mechanical, electrical, and fluid power such as hydraulics or pneumatics is essential
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; Outlook, Word, Excel
  • A pro-active self-starter who can operate both individually and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail in a technical and commercial documents and version control
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organization and presentation skills
  • Comfortable utilizing a CRM
  • Able to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Focus on customer service and teamwork
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills with the ability to influence and train
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Comfort with regional travel across Western Canada
