Chief Financial Officer – Construction Sector

Greater Vancouver, BC  

Our client is an industry leading specialty trade construction organization based in British Columbia. They have retained Lock Search Group to partner in their efforts to bring on a proven Chief Financial Officer to join their executive leadership team.  Reporting into the President, you will take on a critical leadership role managing and overseeing our client’s financial strategy, planning, and reporting to ensure profitability and compliance.

The incoming Chief Financial Officer will oversee daily operations across departments while managing special projects and initiatives from ownership. Lead financial planning, budgeting, and reporting, including cash flow management, audits, tax planning, and compliance with banking and regulatory requirements. Maintain robust internal controls, manage risk, and ensure financial integrity across all areas. In this strategic position you will provide guidance to ownership on key financial decisions, property acquisitions, insurance renewals, and capital investments to support long-term growth and stability. The successful candidates will be driven and truly committed and passionate about supporting the strategic growth of this company and ensuring that they are well prepared for an ever-changing and fast paced environment.

 

Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Partner cross-functionally with all departments to ensure strategic alignment and achievement of company goals, while leading, managing and coaching a diverse team.
  • Collaborate closely with the President and ownership group on financial strategy, planning, and organizational growth.
  • Oversee full-cycle accounting, including budgeting, cash flow management, financial reporting, tax compliance, taxes & tax planning, mortgage renewals GST/EHT/WCB source deductions and audits.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, forecasts, and performance reports for internal stakeholders, banks, and external partners.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls, policies, and reporting systems to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Manage financial risk and compliance, including banking covenants, regulatory filings, and insurance renewals for construction and properties.
  • Support property and equipment purchases, and investment evaluations to guide business expansion.
  • Lead financial planning and analysis to inform strategic decision-making and improve operational performance.
  • Oversee technology adoption and process improvements to modernize systems and drive business efficiency.
  • Manage special projects and ad-hoc initiatives from ownership, ensuring timely execution and measurable results.
  • Manage internal controls related to wire transfers and financial approvals.

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally with direct experience in the construction sector
  • Direct experience and knowledge in the construction/development industry would be an asset, but not a requirement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline; professional designations such as CPA or CFA are highly sought after
  • Proven ability to deliver measurable financial performance improvements and meet strategic business goals in dynamic settings.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a data-informed approach to budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making.
  • Strategic thinker, with exceptional communication skills
  • Inspiring leader with excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and empower high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional communicator with the ability to present complex financial insights clearly to executives, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Leads by example, embodying organizational values and principles through consistent decision-making and team collaboration.
