You’ll be responsible for performing essential repairs and maintenance on farm equipment, using your advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to keep everything running safely and efficiently. You take pride in maintaining a clean, organized shop, managing parts and inventory, and staying ahead of issues before they become problems. You treat the shop like it’s your own business, hold yourself to high performance standards, and understand that your work directly impacts operational success.
Responsibilities:
- Take full responsibility for the maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of all field equipment—tractors, planters, and harvesters. (Note: Trucking and packing lines are maintained by two other dedicated mechanics.)
- Maintain and optimize the field operations fleet, ensuring all farm machinery is ready for planting and harvest cycles.
- Lead the organization of the shop, managing inventory, tools, and repair workflow.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and repairs, primarily on John Deere equipment (50–400 HP) and other field machinery.
- Develop and manage seasonal maintenance plans, conduct pre-harvest inspections, and address breakdowns with efficiency and urgency.
- Drive mechanical innovation by supporting equipment upgrades and implementing performance improvements.
- Utilize digital tools for maintenance records, diagnostics, and tracking service history.
- Ensure the work environment remains secure, organized, and clean at all times.
- Possess advanced understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems essential for agricultural equipment repair.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and practices during all tasks.
- Make effective use of available technical support resources for troubleshooting, procedural guidance, and identifying required repair components.
- Maintain comprehensive maintenance records and documentation.
- Perform basic diagnostics, service, repairs and maintenance work on agricultural other equipment around the farm
Qualifications:
- Possess 10 years of Mechanical experience
- Red Seal preferred but not mandatory.
- Preference to individuals with previous experience in agricultural equipment, or with an agricultural background and enthusiasm about the agricultural industry.
- Strong hands-on experience with large diesel engines, hydraulic systems, basic electrical components, and a variety of field machinery.
- Demonstrated ability to improve shop efficiency—whether through streamlined processes, reduced downtime, or better parts management.
- Possession of a valid Class 3 and 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record; Class 1 license is considered an asset.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to set expectations, lead by example, and foster a high-performance team environment.
